Visitor Information


LOCATION:
We are located in Morristown, Tennessee, the county seat of Hamblen County, approximately forty miles east of Knoxville via I-40 and I-81. We are within walking distance of downtown Morristown and are centrally located within thirty minutes of Jefferson City, Dandridge, Greeneville, Newport, Sevierville, and Rutledge.

The Archives is located on the lower level of the Hamblen County Courthouse (older section). You will need to enter the courthouse from 2nd North Street. This entrance is handicapped-accessible. Once inside, you will pass through security where phones, knives, guns, etc. will be restricted. Then take the stairs or the elevator to floor one. The Archives is located at the west end of the hallway.





PARKING:
Free parking is available on three sides of the courthouse and in a small parking lot at the northwest corner of 2nd North and Jackson Streets. Additional parking is available on nearby side streets.


AMENITIES:
Public restrooms are available on floor one of the courthouse - not in the Archives.

Vending machines and water fountain are available on floor one of the courthouse - not in the Archives. No food or drink are allowed in the Archives.

See Patron Use and Access for a list of items allowed into the Archives and other restrictions regarding the use and access of Archives' resources.


OFFICE HOURS: (subject to change; exceptions apply - see below):

Tuesday10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Thursday10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
And by appointment.

** Patrons are encouraged to call ahead,
especially if coming from out-of-town.

Exceptions:
  • The Archives is staffed & operated by dedicated volunteers, however, last-minute changes to office hours may at times be unavoidable.
  • Closed for the following county holidays:
    New Years - January 1st
    Martin Luther King Day - 3rd Monday in January
    Good Friday - Friday prior to Easter
    Memorial Day - last Monday in May
    Independence Day - July 4th
    Labor Day - 1st Monday in September
    Columbus Day - 2nd Monday in October
    Veterans' Day - November 11th
    Thanksgiving and Christmas - to be announced.
  • Closed periodically for staff training and development.
  • We reserve the right to close for lunch or leave early if no patrons are present or expected.
  • We reserve the right to close for brief periods when a staff presence cannot be maintained.
